Our Wine

Trust 2012 Shiraz

Varietal(s): 100% Shiraz

Appellation: Central Victoria

Vintage: Weather conditions were favourable and vintage timing was critical as late season rainfall created problems. The grapes for this wine were harvested prior to the onset of the rain events.

Colour: Black cherry red.

Nose: The wine has freshly grated nutmeg, cocoa and mulberries on the nose.

Palate: The palate is a combination of luscious red berries and sweet roasted beetroot well balanced with a fine grained tannin.

Trust 2011 Shiraz (Limited Web Release)

Varietal(s): 100% Shiraz

Appellation: Heathcote 100%

Vintage: Weather conditions were such that only one vineyard was sourced for this wine. The year was cool and the disease pressures high. The gravelly soil of this particular Heathcote vineyard brings high aromatic characters and good acidity to this wine.

Colour: Deep burgundy.

Nose: The wine is highly fragrant exhibiting aromas of raspberry jam and cinnamon.

Palate: The palate combines rich dark chocolate with fresh ripe plums, well balanced with smooth fine tannins.

2015 Crystal Hill White

For centuries Europeans have blended varieties to achieve a certain style. With this in mind we have blended Gwertztraminer, for its musk sweetness, Savagnin, for its viscosity, Riesling, for its citrus notes and acidity as well as the deliciously textural Viognier.

Processed using a 100 year old one tonne wooden basket press, we do not separate free run juice from the pressings. The overall effect of this rustic hands on small batch wine making approach is a certain textural palate effect that compliments the richness of the fruit.

Varietal(s): Gwertztraminer, Savagnin, Viognier & Riesling

Appellation: 100% Goulburn Valley

Vintage: An untimely late frost in October hit many grape growers hard. This was followed by two very hot spells early in the year, making harvest timing more critical than ever. Different varieties responded differently to each event resulting in erratic ripening. In the end however reduced crop loads helped fruit concentration and in some cases increased quality.

Colour: Lemon gold

Nose: Quince blossom, feijoa and flinty notes on the nose.

Palate: Displays sweet guava fruits, lingering and delicious.

 2003 The Don Shiraz

Late last century Don & Jenny Lewis planted a special selection of shiraz interspersed with viognier and tempranillo on Crystal Hill, an unusual rise that breasts the Goulburn River in the heart of the historical grape growing region of Nagambie, Central Victoria.

Crystal Hill is formed of ancient soils ribbed with reefs of ironstone and quartz and as the name suggests quartz crystals are scattered throughout the vineyard. Thin topsoil, tough growing conditions and minimal irrigation forces the roots to search deep for nutrients, guaranteeing richness, finesse and individuality in wines made from these low cropping bush vines.

Varietal(s): Shiraz, Viognier & Tempranillo

Appellation: 100% Goulburn Valley

Vintage: The string of droughts that began in 1998 continued, resulting in this wine being harvested mid March. The vines responded to the difficult conditions by producing an exceptionally low crop of small bunches and berries with a high concentration of fruit flavour.

Colour: Deep burgundy

Nose: Lifted black forest cake characters, cigar box and warm earthy notes.

Palate: Finely structured wine with good fruit sweetness across the mid palate, dark chocolate flavours, chalky tannins and a lingering aftertaste.

 Trust 2010 Shiraz

Varietal(s): 100% Shiraz

Appellation: Heathcote 52% & Goulburn Valley 48%

Vintage: Good spring rains that haven’t been seen in the last 10 years set the vines up well for good growth. This start followed by intermittent summer rainfall kept the vines growing strongly. We had no problematic stretches of extremely hot weather that for the majority of varieties, meant an excellent growing season.

Colour: Deep burgundy.

Nose: The wine exhibits a delicious combination of mulberries, star anise and roast parsnips with hints of leather.

Palate: Very sweet across the mid palate, silky chalky tannin, and a rich flavour of blood plums and a bit of earthiness. The finish is sweet and lingering.

Trust 2008 Shiraz

Varietal(s): 100% Shiraz

Appellation: Heathcote 23% & Goulburn Valley 77%

Vintage: Drought conditions continued into 2008 and crop levels were again naturally low. Average winter rains were followed by cool and mild spring conditions. There were two significant and timely rains events in late December and January and moderate weather conditions during February were followed by record March temperatures across SE Australia.

Colour: Deep rich scarlet

Nose: The wine exhibits aromas of mulberries and citrusy chocolates with a touch of cinnamon and vanilla.

Palate: The palate is full and rich with lingering sweet fruit flavours, well balanced with fine chalky tannins.

 Trust 2007 Shiraz

Varietal(s): 100% Shiraz

Appellation: Heathcote 27% & Goulburn Valley 73%

Vintage: Drought conditions continued into 2007 and crop levels were again naturally low. This brings a concentration of colour and flavour. The fruit from Heathcote has a very low disease load which reductes the risk of pests and diseases.

Colour: Deep rich scarlet

Nose: Strongly lifted aromatics of mulberries and blood plums with a hint of deli-like aromas. Violets from the new dry grown parcels show through.

Palate: Good full flavoured wine with fruit sweetness and fine tannins.

 Trust 2006 Shiraz

Varietal(s): Shiraz, Viognier 2.0%

Appellation: Central Victoria

Vintage: As drought conditions prevailed crop levels were naturally low helping concentrate colour and flavour. The dry conditions also significantly reduced the necessity to spray for pests and diseases, a position we encourage. Clean fruit and an early harvest, with no disease pressure makes for an enjoyable vintage.

Colour: Deep rich scarlet

Nose: Strongly lifted aromatics of mulberries and blood plums with a hint of violets and a touch of warm earth.

Palate: The palate combines a silky sweet blackcurrant flavour with a little vanilla and spice. A good full flavoured wine with fruit sweetness and fine tannins.

Trust 2005 Shiraz

Varietal(s): Shiraz, Viognier 1.8%

Appellation: Central Victoria

Vintage: As with the 2004 this was another drought year being the ninth in a row. The benefit of a drought is harvest timing is not forced by inclement weather and fruit condition is excellent. As a result the reduced crop levels, due to the dry conditions, ensured fruit ripeness and good sugar levels.

Colour: Deep Burgundy

Nose: Mulberries and prune plums with a hint of cinnamon spice.

Palate: Fine textured tannin, chocolate like richness, silky smooth flavour. A complete wine that lingers on and on.

Trust 2004 Shiraz

Varietal(s): Shiraz, Viognier 4%

Appellation: Central Victoria

Vintage: 2004 was another in a long series of drought years, however good spring rain encouraged excellent budburst and flowering. Unfortunately however the fruit that set was subsequently reduced by hot winds in January. A long warm summer allowed for good ripening conditions of a small, but high quality crop.
